In this three-part series for high school students, ACHS parent and high school teacher Benjamin Joffe will offer a template for engaging with topics that have become more and more challenging to talk about with friends, with family, and with anyone, really, who holds views not our own. The Jewish cultural tradition of grappling with and leaning into disagreement is built upon developing an understanding of the why behind a particular opinion, and this can be an invaluable skill to develop as we near the presidential election, and as activism over the war in Gaza, antisemitism and Islamophobia, and other aspects of Jewish life and identity continue to unfold. Our goal will be empathy and developing the capacity to hear - truly hear - another perspective.
